Friday 9th July

Waking up this morning at around 7.15am, I saw we were well on our way up the Baltic Sea, having left Lubeck at 3.00am. As we all woke up, it was immediately apparent what a wonderful ship the Finnlines Europalink is. Although carrying many less passengers than the DFDS boat, (500 as opposed to 1600) it carries more cargo. Our cabin, we found, is really fantastic. It has a fridge, TV, trouser press, safe, large shower and toilet, and a double bed (which is more of a gigantic king size bed) as well as bunks. It also has a wonderful large window. The boat itself is equally impressive. While we explored, we found the gym and sauna (included in the cabin price), the lovely shop and the dining room, where our table was reserved for the entire journey.
While we were choking at the ridiculous, over-the-top, scandalous prices being charged by DFDS for everything (for example, 19.50 euros for two cafe lattes, two apple juices and two packets of crisps) we were equally impressed and delighted by the totally reasonable prices being asked on the Finnlines boat- for example two coffees, two apple juices and ice creams for all four of us for around 10 Euros. Even alcohol, which I thought would be expensive, was perfectly reasonable- I bought a bacardi and coke, a martini and lemonade and two waters, for 7 euros!

Sandy, Olivia and I all enjoyed the sauna and jacuzzi, while Anna relaxed out of the deck in the hot sunshine during the afternoon. Anna and I especially enjoyed the food at the buffet meals, and at dinner, I lost count of the number of types of fish dishes I tried, all of which were wonderfully tasty! It has been a tremendously relaxing day- a lovely contrast after the long drive yesterday, so we are all looking forward very much to arriving in Finland tomorrow!
