Thursday 8th July

A long day, after leaving the DFDS ferry at Ijmuiden in the Netherlands, and setting off for the 353 miles drive to Lubeck in northern Germany.
It was hot, with the temperature soon up at 30C as we drove along through the Netherlands. Roads were busy, and I thought the Dutch, and German drivers were often quite aggressive when coming up quickly behind, looking to get past on the outside lane.
We arrived in Lubeck at around 5pm, having stopped a couple of times along the road for “stretch the legs” breaks.
We had dinner of pizzas in a very run-down Indian looking establishment- definitely not the best choice ever- then decided to search for the port of Lubeck. It wasn't hard to find, and so we settled down for the wait to board the ship, the Europalink, as it got dark. It was a gorgeous summer evening, with temperatures of around 28C, cooler than the 33C we had seen on the thermometer of the car as we had stopped in Bremen in mid-afternoon.

Our FinnLines ferry approaches Lubeck.

Waiting to board...

We finally boarded and went to our beds at around 11pm.
